One of my favorite things about being in an active Christian church is that I don’t have to feel helpless about disastrous events in the world. The PCUSA has an incredible disaster relief program, and so when Hurricane Helene hit the US mainland, I knew I was already a part of the relief effort
Presbyterian Disaster Relief (PDA) was ready to get to work before Hurricane Helene landed. And since my church has supported PDA for years, we were a part of that work. Right now, less than a week after the hurricane landed, we have teams working on the initial cleanup after the storm. In the months to come, we will be rebuilding homes and businesses in Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, the Carolinas, and more.
And we don’t work alone. Through years of experience, PDA knows how to work with government agencies, other church denominations and charity groups. Our work complements the work others are doing to give the most benefit to communities in need.
While many Americans just watch disasters like this on TV and wonder what they can do, Presbyterians are already at work – sharing God’s love through practical hurricane relief.
